Now that the New Year is here, why not start 2022 with a home transformation to mark a fresh start?

Decorating your home can often cost an arm and a leg, and with so many various styles and options, it can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. That is why we have curated a list of 5 simple, affordable AND stylish decorations that can easily transform your home for a new and refreshing 2022.

1. Reorganise and declutter

The first thing to do before thinking about any form of decorating is to declutter your space. By getting rid of the things that you don’t need, it not only creates more space, but it means that you can visualise the space and decide what is needed. By decluttering, you can also find forgotten pieces that can be used as new décor for your home. As well that that, don’t forget to reorganise everything to ensure you’re optimising your space; once again so that you can plan the positioning for any future décor.

2. Adopt some house plants

Bring the nature indoors by adding some greenery to your space. Not only does it release oxygen and improve air quality, but it also livens up the space and makes your home more visually appealing. If your bathroom needs a bit of freshening up, don’t be scared to add a few hanging plants, as some plants love the humidity. If you’re based in London, try hitting up the Columbia Road Flower Market on Sundays for a wide variety of plants – all very affordable. You can also find other little trinkets for other types of décor.

3. Personalize your space with wall-art

There are so many different types of wall art that it can often be overwhelming trying to find the right one – especially if you have to stare at it all day every day. Don’t be afraid to find something with a bit of colour or interesting textiles by adding some prints to your space. This will not only bring more warmth, but will brighten up the bare walls with a bit of a personalised touch. There are endless possibilities, so try going for something that brings out your style and taste; this could be through film, music, or your favourite hobbies. It could also be one large piece of art, or various mini prints – the choice is all up to you.

You can find endless choices of affordable prints here – you can even choose what size you’re after and add a frame!

4. Add a rug to warm up the space

Adding a statement rug can immediately bring an element of comfort and cosiness to your home – especially during the long winter days. Try and introduce some new colours and patterns to give your home a bit of character. You can even match your rug with your wall-art to ensure that everything ties together nicely. More importantly, adding a rug can help unify the scheme throughout your home and help draw and define zones. There are a variety of different options when it comes to adding a rug – it just depends on what atmosphere you’d like your home to have.

5. DIY candle projects

Since lockdown, homemade candles have become a popular form of home décor. From wine bottle candles to twisted candles, grab a packet of candlesticks and transform them into any shape you desire. You can also make your own candles easily with a kit with various colours to match your home. Not only does this create warmth and ambience in your space, it can also add brightness to either your bookshelf or coffee table – the perfect finishing touch.
