During the past year, the number of homes bought by Londoners outside the capital increased by 62% in comparison to 2020, making it the biggest “great escape” out of the capital since 2007.

1. Easton
At the top of the list is Easton – one of Bristol’s most up-and-coming neighbourhoods. The average asking price in this area is just under £300,000, which could bag you a two to three-bedroom terrace house in one of the UK’s most sought-after locations!
2. Andover
The picturesque market town of Andover has a lot to offer. With a bustling town centre and good transport accessibility, homeowners could buy a three-bedroom, semi-detached house, or period cottage, for the average price of £296,000.
3. Mangotsfield
Next on the list is Mangotsfield, an old miners’ town that sits between Bristol and the south Cotswolds. Properties in the area range from traditional stone houses to early and mid-twentieth century properties and modern developments. You can snag a three-bedroom terraced house for an average asking price of £321,000.
4. Middlewood
Middlewood in South Yorkshire has also enjoyed a strong market in the last year boasting of a privileged location. For £214,208, homebuyers will be just three miles from Sheffield city centre, as well as having easy access to the Peak District, one of the UK’s most visited national parks.
5. Brislington
Brislington is southeast of Bristol city, bordering Totterdown and Knowle. The area is ideal for professional couples or families offering Victorian terraces, semi-detached terraces, and more modern builds as you get further out for the average asking price of £314,605.
6. Redditch
Redditch, in Worcestershire, successfully blends the old with the new; the modern Kingfisher Shopping Centre is ranked 20th out of 100 centres in the UK, while the Forge Mill Museum celebrates the town’s needle making heritage, with the ruins of the 12th century monastic Bordesley Abbey just a short walk away. Other hotspots include Tilehurst, a popular commuters’ town in the suburbs of Reading that has great access to the city centre and direct rail services to London. With the average asking price currently standing at £257,706, the area hosts a variety of properties modern and traditional.
8. Trowbridge
For the same price, the county town Trowbridge has a rich industrial heritage and provides a great base to explore the historical region of Wiltshire with landmarks such as Avebury and Stonehenge.
9. Wickford
Last but not least, Wickford is an ideal rural location in Essex with superb transport links and affordable properties starting at £392,105. The 50-acre Wick Country Park is conveniently nearby, and the local train line can get you into the capital in just under 40 mins.
